I agree that lynda.com is a good educational resource.

Seems to me that you need to think about what website development education will help you to stand out from all the other web designers/developers who are looking for work.

One of the ways I get work is to point out that many other designers/developers don't really understand online marketing, so that I often have to rebuild my client’s sites before I can market them, whereas I'm both a web designer, developer AND marketer. I think that sort of approach – being a generalist instead of a specialist, can be an excellent goal. You can then offer all the skills of a team for the price of one person.

This is what I'd recommend you study, in order to cover a broad range of skills – using a combination of free online resources (e.g. Google search), paid online classes (e.g. Lynda.com) and books (the books will also make handy reference sources later):
1. Web page coding using the industry standard Adobe Dreamweaver web page editor
2. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) coding (again in Dreamweaver) for formatting and layout
3. Blog creation using the industry standard free WordPress product
4. CMS (Content Management System) creation, with WordPress and Joomla
5. Adobe Photoshop (or the cheaper Adobe Photoshop Elements) for image work
6. Online video production for YouTube, etc.
7. Online marketing and landing/sales page design/development/optimization
8. Google AdWords Pay-Per-Click and AdSense
9. Scientific marketing traffic analysis and A/B Split Testing (e.g. Free Google Web Optimizer)
10. You might also want to learn Flash for animation

Note that Adobe offers free 30 day (not crippled) trials of all their products. You might even make enough in 30 days to pay for them.

Some of my books are pretty old:
* CSS Cookbook (O'Reilly)
* Landing Page Optimization by Tim Ash (Sybex)
* Tested Advertising Methods, Fifth Edition by John Caples (Prentice Hall Business Classics)

Hope this helps…

Taking online web design courses will help you design all types of websites for business, personal, and community needs. Choose web design courses that best meet your individual needs. Online web design courses can easily be taken from home. A web page design course can be a stand alone course or part of a program to get a degree. Web design courses are very popular. Many web design schools offer a variety of online web design courses and classes.

Things You'll Need
Web design course
Web design school
1
Know your purpose for taking web design courses. Do you want a degree, certificate, or just knowledge for personal and business use? Will you be selling your web design services to others? If so you may consider choosing a web design school that will allow you to complete a degree or certificate when you take web design courses.

2
Decide what you want to learn by taking an online web design course. Do you want to learn basic techniques for designing a simple WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web page? Most online web design courses should teach a basic knowledge of HTML – Hypertext Markup Language.

Do you want to learn HTML, CSS coding, Flash, use of images, use of Internet media, CSS, HTML, XHTML, computer graphics, Java, Visio, PERL, ASP, PHP, SQL, C, C++, C#?

3
Decide the location of your web design courses. Are you an independent learner? Do you want to take online web design courses? Do you want to take live web design courses? You can often get more feedback if you are in a live web design course at your local college.

4
Research different web design schools and online programs that offer the type of web design courses and program you are interested in completing. See resources below.

5
Compare web design courses. Consider the cost, location, time needed to complete the web design course, rating of web design school, materials covered in web design course, web design software required, and whether the web design course meets your individual needs.

Any good selfhelp or personal development courses?

Hi All

I'm looking for free online courses that deal with aspects of self help and personal development. Things like building confidence, approaching women, talking to strangers, all those types of things.

Preferably the course should be interactive with actual exercises.

Hi there,

You can find some free courses here Http://www.stateofhypnosis.com/emailcour… on the subjects you want, which hopefully will help you.

If you are particularly interested in approaching women / talking to strangers there is a program by David De'Angelo on confidence who's name escapes me (I've just moved house and everything is still boxed).

Hope that helps you out.

All the best

Jason.
