In this video, Angie Simpson, the administrator of Lotus Park Assisted Living, discusses about the food served at Lotus Park Assisted Living.
“The food that we are cooking now is home-style food — something that they would get if they went to their own Mom’s kitchen. That’s what we’re trying to create, something that is just good, smells good, is good comfort food. Of course we want it to be nutritional and we want to make sure that they get enough fruits and vegetables and meat, enough carbs and proteins, so we’re doing that.
Our big thing is we know this is a big deal to all our residents and it’s a big deal to me. I like to eat good food. So we’ve hired a wonderful chef and she has a wonderful staff. That’s something that we like to do.
We had one resident that had rhubarb and wanted strawberry rhubarb pie, and one of our cooks, that was her specialty. So we had strawberry rhubarb pie and it was really kind of fun. So we try to accommodate.
One of the things we’re trying to do is get recipes from out residents, some things that they like, and make some of their own recipes — homemade. I don’t know if we can do it as well as they did it but we thought it would be fun to just get their own recipes and make their own food. We’ll see if we can try to conquer it and make it good. That’s one of our goals.
